Use the public tables or properly weighted microdata. The SCF contains multiple imputations per family: those records are not separate families. Keep median and mean wealth distinct.
Before using a figure in advocacy, record the exact table or measure, geography, observation period, population, denominator and uncertainty. This page is a research guide; it does not claim that raw data have been imported or independently analyzed.
Sampling, multiple imputation and replicate weights matter. A racial group’s median does not describe every member or establish a single causal explanation.
